School Management Information Systems (MIS)

Introduction

Schools have a statutory duty to collect data at school level and pupil level. The prime source of both sets of data is the school Management Information Systen (MIS). This is increasingly becoming a 'mission critical' system. The need for interoperable standards is becoming increasingly important, and Becta have released the first draft of its MIS Functional Specification.

In addition Becta are adopting the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF), which aims to provide an agreed XML schema to ensure that systems designed for schools, such as registration e-catering, security etc. can talk to each other.
